General Public

As Acting Dean of Arts, I welcome you to this website, which provides a wide range of information about the Faculty of Arts and its programs. My role as Acting Dean is to work with faculty, staff, and students to make the Faculty of Arts the best it can be.

Arts is the University's largest Faculty, measured by the number both of its students and of its faculty members. It houses seventeen departments and seven programs, ranging across the humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary studies (e.g. Women's and Gender Studies, Prairie Studies, Environmental Studies, Arts & Culture) and even a few professional programs (such as Police Studies and Journalism). It offers degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Faculty is a vibrant institution. We've had many young, new members join us in the past few years, folks who have brought energy, commitment and exciting new research programs with them. Some of our more senior members are known nation- and even world-wide for their fine scholarly work. We are committed to excellence in the classroom; many of our instructors are highly accomplished at getting students excited about their disciplines and all are encouraged to take this part of their jobs very seriously. The Faculty has a reputation for encouraging open and relevant debate, as exemplified by the Coffee House Controversies series of public talks, which are held throughout the year at a local bookstore.

Faculty of Arts Mission Statement

The Faculty of Arts serves the University of Regina, its students, faculty and staff, and the communities that surround and support us. Our goals are the creation, discovery and communication of knowledge.

We affirm the value of creative and critical thought, innovative research, free discussion, courageous inquiry and social change. We embrace the particular challenges facing the diverse communities, including the Indigenous communities, of our region. We foster an intellectual environment in which diversity is reflected and celebrated. We interpret our pasts and help to shape the futures of Saskatchewan and beyond.
