Dr. Jack Boan Medal in Economics

 

This award was established to honour a long-time department member and Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Regina. Dr. Boan is an outstanding teacher, an internationally-recognized scholar and widely active in the community. The Boan Medal is awarded every spring (conditions permitting) to a University of Regina student who has completed (anytime during the previous academic year) the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Candidates must have attained a grade point average of at least 80% in all Economics courses to be eligible for the award. The medal also comes with a cash prize ($300 less the cost of striking the medal).

David L. Beattie Memorial Scholarship

 

This scholarship was established to commemorate a long-time member of the department who died suddenly on November 1, 1999. He was awarded the University of Regina Alumni Association Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1991, in recognition of his enthusiastic approach to teaching and the encouragement he provided to his students during more than 25 years of service.

The scholarship, currently worth $750, is awarded every spring to a University of Regina undergraduate student registered in an Economics, Economics & Society, or Economics Combined, major and having the highest overall average in ECON 100, ECON 201 and ECON 202. To be eligible, students must have an average of at least 75% in the three courses, have completed one of ECON 201 or ECON 202 within the previous academic year, and be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours of percentage-graded courses during the next ensuing fall semester.

Dr. Peter Woroby Memorial Scholarship

 

This scholarship honors Professor Emeritus Dr. Peter Woroby, a long-time member of the Department who passed away May 5, 2002. Born in Ukraine, Dr. Woroby arrived in Canada in 1948 and settled in Regina, where he became Director of Economic Research for the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. In 1965 he joined the University of Regina as a Professor in the Economics Department, specializing in Urban Economics. In 1987, in recognition of his scholarly research, teaching, and many professional accomplishments, he was granted Professor Emeritus status.

The scholarship, currently worth $750, is awarded every spring to the student with the highest overall average in completed Economics courses of all those registered in the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree Program in Economics. To be eligible, students must be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours of percentage-graded courses in each of two semesters during the year the scholarship is awarded, and must have maintained a program grade point average of at least 80%.
