Research & Teaching Interests:

My research and teaching interests continue to focus on institutional and community corrections since I served 15 years in federal and territorial corrections. I have been intrigued with the quality-of-work/life issues for the “other inmate” correctional officers and how to improve those conditions. My other research and teaching interests include the effectiveness of drug courts, the death penalty, qualitative and evaluative research. I am also exploring some of the interrelated challenges (access, rapport, honesty, confidentiality, compromise, etc.) faced by researchers conducting qualitative research within correctional environments.
